Day 30, what I learnt and what’s next

It’s day 30 and my body and mind feel great. In the past few days I’ve been asked quite a few times what I’m going to eat first or what I’m looking forward to eating when my whole30 is complete; and the answer is, well, nothing.

There isn’t anything right now that I can think of that’s worth breaking this great feeling for. Now that isn’t to say that I won’t break it at some point, of course I will, when I find something that’s totally worth it. And trust me I will enjoy the hell out of it.

But I’m not going to eat something tomorrow just because I can.

I know I will wake up feeling as great as today and my aim is to feel this way the majority of the time, because it’s worth it, and enjoy treats occasionally, because they’re worth it.

This has to be one of the most liberating and empowering feelings I can think of, I feel in control of my health and wellness and I know that if I ever feel like I’m losing control again, I have a tool to get me back here.

Day 29 and Orange Coconut Cauliflower Rice

Sorry about the bad picture – bad nighttime lighting and taken with my phone. I’ve always been of the opinion that a bad workman always blames his tools.. but ah well! :) I did rush to take it because I didn’t start out with intentions of sharing this recipe but it turned out really good so felt like I should.

It’s great paired with baked dolphin and just-ripe avocado.

Day 28 and a non-food-related video

It’s Monday again and I think the start of a week can sometimes be tough. So, I won’t babble on too long, just a short pre-lude to a video that’ll make you think.

One of the great things about social media, especially facebook is I’ve found myself still in touch with classmates from university. I was lucky enough to go to art school so there are quite a few characters that light up my news feed. I specialised in advertising, and while my career path has gone a slightly different route, some of my classmates have worked on and produced some great work.

This one I stumbled upon and really found it rather inspiring, I’m sure there are a lot of women out there that can also relate.

Day 27 and the scale

One of the rules of whole30 is not to get on a scale during your 30 days. And I am of the opinion that this is a crucial part of the programme.

My first realization that the scale is not a health indicator was back in university. It was my second year and I had become busy with my advertising courses and wasn’t getting to the gym, nor eating the best. I didn’t have a scale there so had to wait until I came home to Barbados to weigh myself. I was dreading it. I knew I would be upset with the amount of weight I had put on and did not want to face it.

Day 26 and Healthy Movement

Wow. Only 4 days to go. Feels like this whole30 is going by much more quickly than the other 2 and is a bit more second nature now.

During this one I’ve tried to focus on exercise aka healthy movement and have been doing some form of activity ~3 times a week. These sessions are usually a crossfit-style workout which I have a love-hate relationship with, but mostly love. I always feel amazing after, even if sometimes my body feels like jelly and I want to curse my coaches. I do this at Limitless Performance some days and others with a group of awesome friends and an evil friend/coach

I also really enjoy yoga for both strength and mobility, though of recent I have not been able to make it to my regular class regularly.
